Kuta Karnival 2006, September 16-24

Wednesday September 06, 2006
Kuta Karnival has become an important annual event in Bali’s tourism calendar. With the devastating terrorist blast that affected the island and international community back in October 2002, the Kuta Karnival was inaugurated to honor the victims of human violence and also to show the world that the true spirit of local community always survives.

The nine-day event is this year to be held from the 16th - 24th September and will hopefully attract numerous local and international visitors to Bali. With fun filled activities in the realms of music, sport, art and food to be put on show, this carnival promises to build on the success of its predecessors.

Within an overriding theme of “A Celebration of Life” this year’s annual theme is “Unity in Diversity” since the Kuta Karnival hopes to bring together people from various cultures, races and walks of life as a cosmopolitan community right here in Bali. Kuta Small Business Association (KSBA) as the main organizer is hoping that Kuta Karnival will continue to grow, creating stronger connections between the various sub communities that inhabit the island.

Traditional Balinese dance will feature in the opening ceremony followed by events such as the popular food festival, beach surf & sea, bike festival as part of the United Nations World Tourism Day, cultural shows and much more.

The Music part of the Kuta Karnival will feature different genres from Hip Hop, Punk, Pop and Rock to Jazz and Blues, not to mention a huge opener with The Beat Rock Fest. Other cultural events will include traditional dance and music performed by local banjar groups; exhibitions by local artist and sculptures and competition of kite making and flying catering for adults and children. The parade of colourful floats on the final day is not to be missed. It starts on Jalan Melasti goes through to Jalan Legian and finally to Jalan Pantai, finishing on Kuta beach. The local Surf Industry is once again one of the main players in the Karnival and while not holding the skate park competitions like past years due to the massive expense involved they will be holding their special days including surf competitions and music performances. Surfer Girl, Billabong, Rip Curl and Oakley have registered to be part of the action.

The Food Festival will be held on the second weekend of the Kuta Karnival together with the 1st Kuta Karnival Expo displaying home decor and handicrafts in export ready quality.
