Bali News: Lights, Camera, Action
(3/24/2007) The Director of the Bali Film Center (BFC), Deborah Gabinetti, traveled to FILMART's Locations World held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre March 20-22, 2007, to introduce the diversity of Indonesian and Balinese locations and the low production costs associated with Indonesian film projects.

According to Gabinetti, meetings held at the event with Bill Bowling, Worldwide Locations Executive for Warner Bros Pictures (USA) produced some positive results, including discussion of ideas for future film projects in Indonesia.

Also on hand in Hong Kong were Indonesian Director Angus Strachan and Executive Producer Jan Eymann who presented their latest Bali-based romantic epic, Between Two Worlds - a story that revolves around a beautiful young Balinese dancer who travels through the mythical valley of death before finding balance between light and dark; love and loss.

Attending the major film event were numerous studio executives, producers, directors, location managers and industry professionals, including; Li Qian Kuan, President of China Film Foundation and Australian actor Bryan Brown who attended promoting co-productions with the Australian Film Commission.

Running concurrently with FILMART was the first pan-Asian film awards show - Asian Film Awards, which saw Indonesian Rahayu Supanggah awarded Best Composer for his work on Garin Nugroho's Opera Jawa - joint Indonesian/Austrian production.

Since 2002, BFC has provided professional service and support to the entertainment industry including a range of film and television projects for National Geographic (USA), Still Productions (Portugal), BBC2 (UK), Pierre Javaux Productions (France), MTV (USA), Long Way Round (UK), Alphaville 44 (Korea), Beyond Productions (Australia) with two feature films and a television series presently in development. Plans are also underway for the 1st Bali Taksu Film Fest & Awards scheduled for later this year.

Indonesia is the largest archipelago is the world spanning over 17,000 islands. Geographically and culturally diverse, Indonesia has natural settings matching any action genre or era set amidst thousands of temples, terraced rice fields, tropical rain forests, remote tribal villages, colonial plantations, palatial ruins, active volcanoes, underwater coral gardens or romantic desert islands.

Combined with low production costs, countless extras on short notice, master craftsmen, an experienced pool of talented and creative people, full government support – Indonesia is guaranteed to become an increasingly attractive and economical location for filming.
